1935 Epiphone Mandolin

Rare 1935 Epiphone mandolin in for appraisal. Epiphone was at one time its own brand separate from Gibson, with a family business from the late 1800’s having moved from the Ottoman Empire to New York City, and subsequently modernized by Epaminondas Stathopoulos who coined the name Epiphone and began guitar building in 1928. The quality and workmanship was akin to Gibson, particularly in the mandolins and arch top guitars, becoming Gibson instrument’s main rival, and the company was eventually bought and merged with Gibson in 1957. This pre-Gibson example shows this unique carved top and back quality, and carries snowflake inlay we often associate with Martin pre-war instruments in a unique “dancing” snowflake pattern up the neck. Not for Sale.
